Year 7 & 8

Our approach to teaching and learning in Years 7 & 8 is that learning is relevant, rigorous and caters for the needs of individual students. Clear links are made between learning and the real world through the provision of authentic tasks. Learning French at Carwatha

Students in Year 7 use the Touché 1 Coursebook and Workbook which are supported by both a teacher CD and an interactive student CD-ROM which allows students to practise listening and speaking skills at home. Students also do a major cultural assignment in each semester.

In Year 8, all learning materials are supplied to students, and topics studied are based on students’ interests and preferences, usually focused on French for overseas travel.

Every year, Bastille Day is celebrated in the second week of Term 3. As you can see from the photos, eating crepes supplied by French Accent Crepes is a major and much relished part of our celebrations.

Students and teachers from all year levels enjoy the Bastille Day crepes

Students in Years 7 and 8 also visit ACMI to see a French film with English sub-titles. The excursion includes a visit to Screen Australia where students are able to see the works of the likes of Georges Mélieres and the Lumière brothers, as well as sampling French food from the many crêperies in the city.

At Carwatha, learning French is lots of fun, as well as giving students the opportunity to learn a language that enhances options for travel and employment, both here and overseas.
